Valhalla Restaurant & Gift Shop was established in downtown Visalia at the corner of Locust and Main in September 1982 by Elsie Casida and her daughter Kim Payne. The business moved to its current location on Center in 1994.
Elsie and Kim opened Valhalla with a simple formula – a passion for homemade food carefully crafted with fresh ingredients and a dedication to paying homage to their Danish heritage. Over the years, Valhalla has become well known for its quality homemade meals, baked goods, desserts and family atmosphere.
With her grandma by her side, Kim grew up loving to cook and created her own recipes as early as age 7. Many of the Danish recipes used in the restaurant came from Kim’s grandma’s kitchen and have become staples on the menu to this day.
After 30 successful years in the business Elsie retired in 2012. Kim’s husband Rande joined Kim that same year after 25 years in the foodservice distribution industry. Valhalla is currently a three-generation family owned and operated restaurant. Every Valhalla staff member takes pride in being an important part of the family business. Their goal is to create the best dining experience possible for every guest by providing great food and warm and friendly service.
Valhalla’s commitment to excellence has made Valhalla a family tradition through generations. The hard work by all the staff day in and day out have helped many in Visalia and tourists alike find their way to Viking Heaven!
